"You are too generous to trifle with me...My affections and wishes are unchanged, but one word from you will silence me on this subject for ever."
"No!" Elizabeth gasped. She stammered as she tried to form her feelings into words. "I...my feelings...that is...I was..."
Dare I hope? He smiled as he watched this adorable creature fumbling for words. He was not certain what she was attempting to say, but it was pleasing to him that Elizabeth who was always ready with an eloquent response, was so affected by him as to be rendered nearly as foolish as she had made him to feel during their early acquaintance. "Miss Elizabeth. Would you like a moment?"
"Yes." she said, then "No! Please. I..." Tears welled in her eyes. "How can you have forgiven me for the terrible things I said to you? The pain I caused you before I even knew you?"
He gently brushed her tears away. "And what do you know of me now?"
"I know you to be the best man I have ever known. You are so kind and generous! Not at all what I thought you to be. I can never forgive myself for my behavior to you."

"You must not be so severe upon yourself. How could you have known to be otherwise? How, when I behaved so abominably? My own behavior must have confirmed your dislike of me. But please tell me...is there some small chance of your returning my affections now?"

More tears welled up in her eyes as she cried, "Oh, Mr Darcy! Yes. I do. I have so great an affection for you now as to make me feel quite honored and humbled by your request for my hand."
"I can only hope to endeavor to be worthy of you, if you will have me." He replied as his eyes beseeched her acceptance.
"I will. Most happily." Her tears were now tears of joy.
He caught her up in his arms. "Elizabeth! You've made me so happy! I will never give you cause to regret our marriage."
